Now, what sort of cigar do you have in mind?
"Inside
the Humidor", Sizes range
from the very large Double Corona or Churchill, through Corona Extra or
Robusto, to the standard Corona, Petit Corona, Half Corona and Demitasse.
It all depends on when (and where) you're going to smoke.
Time:
That Churchill may look inviting but if you only have 20/30 minutes available
you will have to rush it and abuse all the nuances of this wonderful cigar.
It will smoke bitter, harsh and hot if smoked too fast.
For such a short time a Half Corona may be a better choice.
When in doubt about the size for the length of time available choose shorter,
not necessarily thinner. A long thin cigar should
actually take longer to smoke than a short thick one.
Cut it off just below the ashline (for cleanliness), blow through it (to expel remaining smoke), and put it in a tube (or wrap it) to complete the enjoyment later.
Occasion: For many, a Cuban cigar is too heavy for the morning or before a meal. This was also
evident at some blind tastings. When the anonymous cigars were smoked early in the evening,
the lighter Dominican cigars achieved high ratings, whereas when the blind tastings were after
some food and a preliminary cigar, the rich Cubans rated high on the score card.
When in doubt choose lighter, not necessarily shorter or smaller.
Amongst the cigars in the humidor you will find the light, mellow cigars typical of the Dominican
Republic, and the richer Honduran or matured Maduro cigars.
Price: Such a range - from a relatively inexpensive single Dutch or bundled Cuban cigar,
to the luxurious Cohiba Esplendidos.
And there are substantial savings when you buy a box or bundle.
Try a variety - different brands in the same size, or different sizes of the same type.
