Robusto Varies Selection

In South Africa, since before the 1970’s, a short thick cigar from Hoyo (124mm x Ring 50) was revered as the ultimate smoke. This popularity was created purely by the dimensions of the cigar, not necessarily by the blend or taste. The draw is easy; the flavour is full and the length of smoking time comfortable. This size cigar from the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua was often named Rothschild. When the Cuban Cohiba of this size was produced, they used the name Robusto - and this is the name that has become the generic for all cigars of approximately these dimensions. In the Premier issue of Cigar Aficionado (Autumn 1992) the “Robusto / Rothschild” size was selected for the first tasting. In a fine article they described the size as the “perfect power lunch smoke”.

Quintero Favoritos: Cuban (115mm x Ring 50)
Quintero is one of the few Habanos brands not born in Cuba’s capital city, Havana. Instead its founder Agustin Quintero with his four brothers set up shop in the south coast city of Cienfuegos, known as the “Pearl of the South”. Then as now all the tobaccos selected for Quintero came from the Vuelta Abajo region. Normally Quintero cigars are budget cigars, totally handmade, short filler, medium bodied. However, in April 2012, a new vitola was launched: - totally handmade, long filler, a slightly shorter Robusto size, the Favoritos.

La Aurora Principes Robusto: Dominican (127mm  x Ring 50)
Grupo León Jimenes, C.porA is the oldest cigar manufacturing company in the Dominican Republic, founded by Don Eduardo Leon Jimenes in 1903. Four generations of the Jimenes family have run the company; brands include the top quality La Aurora and León Jimenes.
Principes is a handmade long filler cigar with a Connecticut wrapper (Claro), presented in a cedar wood, slide lid box.
Both the filler and the binder are collected from 100% Dominican tobaccos. This mixture combined with the fine Connecticut seed wrapper from Ecuador*  gives the cigars a lighter, smooth smoke. The flavour develops as the cigar is smoked: coffee and leather notes with very little bitter aftertaste.

Luis Martinez Silver Selection Robusto Crystal: Nicaraguan (121mm x Ring 50)
Don Luis Martinez started making cigars in Cuba before fleeing to the USA in 1892. The factory is now in Esteli, Nicaragua. The Silver Selection combines the flavours of Honduran and Nicaraguan filler, a Nicaraguan Cuban Seed Binder and an Ecuadorian* Sungrown Wrapper.
It is the careful blending of tobaccos from the jet black, mineral rich soil of Nicaragua and Honduras together with the Ecuadorian wrapper that give this exceptional cigar its medium body and smooth, full flavor.

*The coastal region of Ecuador has one of the best climates in the world for wrapper leaf. The soil is rich in minerals and natural components; the temperature is mild; and cloudiness gives a natural cover that helps to grow bright, soft and elastic leaves.
