STANWELL Pipe of the Year 2008
“Stanwell is not a traditional pipe factory but an assembling of some of the best Danish pipe makers who every day are proud to create pipes which prove their professional skill” says the Stanwell website.
Each year a special pipe is created in limited quantities, and here is the offering for 2008.
An elegant, beautifully balanced pipe. The silver sleeve (reminiscent of a Roman Helmet) and the silver “S” inset in the mouthpiece go perfectly with the glowing black, lightly sandblasted finish.
The bowl itself is very light – a tribute to the quality of the briar and the curing process. And you’re able to appreciate the quality and closeness of the grain when you look at the smooth rim of the bowl
And for a relaxed evening, try the cooling effect of an extra-long mouthpiece – supplied free with the pipe.
Glowing black sandblast, polished top ~ Superb Grain ~ Silver sleeve on shank
Two Mouthpieces:Churchwarden or Regular ~ No filter

Many Danes have a flair for design - the natural ability to take a classic item, be it a lamp stand, a chair, a vase or a pipe, and turn it into something special, without compromising its functionality. So it was many years ago with Paul Stanwell and his team of pipemakers. To protect themselves from piracy each Stanwell shape was registered, and today they represent the "Classic Danish" shapes. Today, Stanwell is still not a traditional pipe factory but an assembling of some of the best Danish pipe makers who every day are proud to create pipes which prove their professional skill.

Danish pipes are special.
They are different.
They look great and are a delight to handle.

So So if you would like a pipe quite unlike the classic English pinstripe suit, yet one that still performs and handles like a Rolls Royce, you’ll appreciate Stanwell!

Forever looking for ways to improve their product, Stanwell has developed an acrylic mouthpiece which does not discolour or become bitter tasting through excessive exposure to moisture, from either the mouth or a humid atmosphere.
Their most recent innovation is the use of glass beads for “sandblasting”. These are less aggressive towards the briar and used under a lower pressure; more time consuming, but creating a much more defined and detailed finish.

all comfortable and elegant.

Stanwell 9mm pipes are constructed to hold an
absorbent disposable filter to "mop up" excess moisture.
They are also supplied with an optional adapter to allow
you to smoke them like conventional non-filter pipes.
Extra filters and adapters available

WATCHPOINT
A most important word of warning about filter pipes:
Filter pipes must be smoked with either the filter or an adapter (usually supplied with the pipe).

Smoking without the filter (or adapter), even once, will allow moisture to condense in the empty space and seep into the shank, causing it to swell. This will result in a cracked shank, or a loose mouthpiece which is very difficult to remedy. If this happens to you, take it in to your nearest Wesley’s for an opinion.
The Tenon/Peg is tougher than the wood!
Keep it clean so it won’t stick. Wipe and pencil it occasionally so it slides easily.
