Cigar Humidors

Desk and Travel

Alfred Dunhill summarised his standards for any product bearing his name:
"It must be useful. It must work dependably. It must be beautiful. It must last. It must be the best of its kind.”

These standards are embodied in Alfred Dunhill White Spot Humidors

“It must be useful”
Storing cigars safely; 100’s under lock & key.

“It must work dependably”
Storing cigars in optimum condition thanks to the specially created Humidity Control System , perfect closure (just a puff as you drop the lid) and high quality hinges.

“It must be beautiful”
– Actually, we have a problem: finding other words that mean “beautiful” every time we handle a Dunhill product. The veneers on these humidors are carefully chosen from amongst the most beautiful woods in the world. Descriptions of the different veneers follow (thanks to www.woodfinder.com)

“It must last”
– cabinet quality, durable, solid wood boxes

“It must be the best of its kind”
The “White Spot” is universally recognised as a symbol of perfection.

Care:

The humidors are made of natural material and should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat, such as spotlights or radiators. Sunlight may bleach the natural colour from the veneer finish of the box and may even cause it to lift and crack. Direct heat will cause the wood, which is naturally porous, to shrink, weakening the box joints and spoiling the appearance of the veneer.

The fittings / equipment:

Humidity Control System attached by magnet to the lid
50’s – Moveable divider
100’s – 2 moveable dividers, lock and key

The Veneers:

Macassar wood  (Diospyros celebica)

Durability:   Moderately durable
Source:   Southeast Asia, including the Celebes Islands, India, Indonesia and the Philippines
Description:   A very heavy, hard and dense wood. Heartwood is dark brown or black with streaks of yellow brown. The grain is typically straight. Wood is brittle and usually used for decorative purposes. Also used for cabinets, walking sticks, musical instruments, and billiard cues

Makore Wood  (Tieghemella spp.)
Common names: Makore, douka, baku, ukola, African cherry, cherry mahogany
Durability:   Very good
Source:   East Liberia, Sierra Leone to Cameroon, Gabon to Cabinda
Description:   It is a solid wood that is favorably used for intarsia and decorative veneers due to its irregular growth
patterns. The heartwood is pink to pinkish brown, with a soft appearance of tan streaks throughout. The sapwood can be up to 4.5 inches thick and is light pink or off-white in color. Fair workability using hand and machine tools. Blunting of cutting edges is caused by a high silica content.

Grey Oak  (Quercus alba) – from the grain, we assume, this is white oak stained grey
Common names: White oak, overcup oak, chestnut oak, swamp chestnut oak, northern white oak, southern white oak, Appalachian oak
Durability:   Very good
Source:   Eastern United States, Central states and Appalachians
Description:   Outstanding resistance to wear and abrasion. More pronounced and longer rays than red oak. Pores are angular and very numerous, filled with glistening substance called tyloses, which makes wood suitable for water-tight containers.

Dunhill White spot Travel Humidor

This is brilliant!” - My comment after checking it out.

Why?
The appearance – A neat cedarwood humidor, covered with black, grained calf leather from Spain. Sophisticated styling, with the distinctive White Spot – a symbol of perfection.
The humidification – Maintains the condition of previously conditioned cigars using a simple evaporative system.
The care of my cigars – Not only does the humidifier maintain the humidity for my cigars, but it is moveable; it will hold any number of cigars in place so that they won’t roll around.
The size – Inside dimensions when the humidification system is in place: 158mm x 180mm x 25mm. Up to 9 corona cigars, and just long enough for a Churchill and enough height for a Ring 54;
The weight – only 560g
The convenience – the sprung lid stays open until closed to an angle of about 30º; then it snaps shut and the magnetic closure automatically flips into place;

“Somebody had a lot of fun designing this!”
